Private Care in Gainsbrough - Samantha

Gainsborough

I have personal experience of care and have been looking after my grandmother when she was diagnosed with having onset dementia. I ensured that my gran was able to stay in her home for as long as possible by regularly visiting, ensuring her welfare and needs were met by helping her with personal care, general house work, cooking and cleaning, taking her out on trips or to appointments, but best of all was the talking and reminiscing about the good old days ad family holidays we had together.

I have worked as a teaching assistant in a special needs school and in secondary school which I have a diploma in specialist support for teaching and learning in schools at level 3, I worked in educational services for over 10 years and my support was focused around the pupils welfare and safety in a pastoral caring role which I believe my skills are transferable to a care role.

I am a great believer in that everyone deserves the respect, dignity, and being valued for who you are.

I'm a caring, compassionate and creative person I enjoy baking, crocheting, reading, sewing.

I'm a mum of two beautiful grown-up daughters and a nan of three grandchildren, I have worked in the educational sector and retail but now I'm looking for a new career opportunity to further develop my skills, knowledge and experience.

Private Care in Little Paxton - Linda

Little Paxton

I worked for a lovely gentleman (along with working at the pharmacy till 2016 when I went full time for the gentleman) I started as his cleaner then ended up as his carer.

Sadly he died in Feb 2021 & I miss him. I have had the odd job with agencies but I am looking for similar work like my last gentleman on a one to one basis.

I worked in a care home in Paxton where I did 1st aid courses, hygiene, hazardous chemicals etc the rest.

I have a good heart & soul & I care, especially about those that can be forgotten in the system.

I'm great at listening, I have a lot of time for people, I love hearing about their life. I enjoy "people" I'm at my best being around the elderly, I love hearing their stories, looking at their photographs, black & white footage of days gone by.

My mum was living with dementia before she died 2016. My last gentleman also was living with dementia & you learn to go along with what they say knowing that if you say otherwise or contradict, it upsets them greatly. (Best practise from the Alzheimer’s Society)

The majority that I have learnt is from experience, not from exams, NVQs, computer tests or endless training meetings.

It is in my DNA, it's who I am.

I love all types of music, especially the 60's, I love classical, I love old movies. I love animals!

Do you have a driving license and access to a vehicle?: Yes, I have a driving license & access to a car

Private Care in York - Michelle

York

I have over 20 yrs experience in the care sector. I've worked in Care homes and but did a year supporting a lady living with dementia in her home.

I gained my Care Certificate last year. I adore working with the elderly and always try to brighten up their day.

The Care Home I work in is great but it would be lovely to spend more time with clients, which sometimes we don't get to do much of. It's great seeing them smile though and give you a hug!

I know I always bring a smile to my residents faces and they love my singing, so they tell me. 😆

I strive to give 100% in all I do and they know if they ask me to do something they can trust me do it/sort the problem out or failing that ask someone who can help.

My residents know as soon as I walk into their room the job will be done properly and it's always a pleasure to be asked for by name.

Outside of work I love making artificial flower arrangements and wreaths. I sell a lot to family and friends and have a great eye for detail. I find it easy to put my hand to anything, very versatile and try to be as accommodating as I can be.

I have 4 dogs which I adore walking. They're very much my babies now the children have grown up.

Love cooking and entertaining. I live in a 18th century cottage which is great for having friends round and love getting out and pottering around in the garden.

I’m a very passionate person, always cheerful, love having a giggle and chat. Strive to put 100% in everything I do.

I class myself as a very compassionate person and always try to be there to lend a hand to anyone in need. I have high expectations of myself and the thought of letting anyone down or not giving my all can make me sensitive as I would hate for anyone to think badly of me.

I have worked in care for approximately 16 years in varying capacities and settings.

The longest period of my career was spent at a residential home where I supported elderly individuals living with dementia. On reflection I feel this was the role I excelled and gained the most enjoyment.

This environment installed a deep knowledge of care provision and there was an ‘outstanding’ outcome in our the services during an inspection.

I have always and continue to see myself as an advocate for those individuals I have the opportunity to support in their daily living.

Here are some of the qualifications/certificates I have:

Level 2 NVQ in health and social care - Adults

Level 2 certificate in behaviours that challenge

I am a perfectionist, I like to commit fully to any task or opportunity I commence. Staff that I have managed in previous roles say that I inspire them to work to high standards and have become a positive role model.

Private Care in Alnwick - Danielle

Alnwick

After the UK’s first lockdown our family relocated to Northumberland where I trained with the NHS to become a COVID vaccinator. It is while working in one of the booster clinics where I realised how rewarding working with the elderly is.

I enjoyed the sitting and chatting to people that came in for their boosters whenever I had the chance as I was aware I may have been the only person they spoke to that day.

It was a lady I was working with who was also a carer that pointed out how good I would be in a job role working as a carer. I love giving my time to people that need it, love meeting new people, enjoy listening and love the chance to help make even just a small difference to someone’s day.

I am a qualified teaching assistant and before 2020 and worked as a supply teacher for primary pupils as well as working in 1:1 situations, also a caring role. I loved my time working with children and gained a huge satisfaction from helping to make a difference to a child’s education journey.

Private Care in Wrexham - Allison

Wrexham

I have been a personal experience caring for family members for over thirty years.

My eldest daughter has hydrocephalus and cerebral palsy and is totally dependent for all her needs.

I cared for her at home until it was in her best interest to go into a nursing home. I grew up looking after my brother and in 2010 my mother came to live with me as she developed Alzheimer’s and I nursed her until she passed away in 2019.

I have learned so much from my family experience of caring and I would like to use this knowledge to make a difference in someone else’s life.

I’m told I am a very good listener, that I am empathetic and that I am a very honest down to earth person who only sees the good in people. I have had friends come back to me to say they made it through a difficult situation because I was there to support them emotionally.

I would really like to use my time helping and caring for those who need it most. To me, it’s very important to enhance a person’s quality of life no matter who they are or what their needs are.

I love animals especially dogs and horses, I enjoy reading and doing jigsaw puzzles and I really enjoy a good conversation. Looking through photos and reminiscing is another favourite pastime of mine. I feel I am at my best when I am caring for someone who needs a little bit of help and support to get them through the day.
